Torched Dog Dies From Severe Burns And Abuse
Mayor Slay Animal Cruelty Task Force Committed To Serving Justice
We must warn those reading this story that it contains graphic images of burns.
St. Louis, Missouri (July 12, 2013) – Sadness and anger swept over the animal loving community this morning as a dog’s fate was sealed just two days after he was found tethered on a short, extremely heavy chain with severe burns all over his face and body. Brownie, the deceased dog, suffered this horrific abuse on the 4300 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue, and now the Mayor Slay Animal Cruelty Task Force is devoted to swiftly serving justice and offering a cash reward for information leading to the prosecution of the person or persons responsible for this terrible crime.
“When I got the call he passed away, all I could do was cry and then pray for the strength to make sure justice is served,” said Randy Grim, Founder of Stray Rescue. “This is one of the saddest and worst cases I have ever dealt with.”
While many details cannot be given due to the ongoing investigation, this heartbreaking case is yet another stark reminder of the seriousness of animal abuse and neglect in St. Louis and it is finally being addressed since the formation of the Task Force.
After Stray Rescue transferred the critical case to Veterinary Specialty Services to treat Brownie’s extensive medical problems, there was a public outcry of support, frustration, and rage on the rescue and shelter organization’s social media page. City residents have had enough.
“We see a ton of abuse cases, far too many, but the way in which Brownie suffered really struck a nerve with everyone,” said Randy Grim, Founder of Stray Rescue. “Our community is sick and tired of these horrific crimes, and they will not be tolerated. I won’t give up until we find who did this.”
All one needs to do in order to grasp the tremendous pain Brownie went through in his final days is to look at the photographs, showing awful burns on his eyes, nose, body, feet, ears, legs – all over.
The Task Force is currently following all leads, conducting further detailed investigations, and posting reward flyers.
Stray Rescue is asking for donations to The Stracks Fund, their emergency medical fund, to help guarantee dogs like Brownie are assured continuous medical care, so they are able to recover, love, and be loved. The organization would also like to remind citizens that there is a St. Louis City ordinance in place regarding the tethering of dogs. Brownie was helpless in escaping his abuser because he was anchored by a chain.
